Mauna Loa Eruption Images November 29th 2022 by Ethan Tweedie

Day 2 of the Mauna Loa Eruption. These images were taken in the early morning hours off the Saddle Road on the Big Island of Hawaii. This is the first time Mauna Loa has erupted in 38 years. I was a junior in High School in 1984 the last time I witnessed the World’s Largest Active Volcano! If you’d like to see some live video I did while filming this Timelapse head over to my Instagram and give me a follow!

Enjoy!

Lava Lake | Kilauea Volcano | Milky Way | Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by Ethan Tweedie

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island is home to the World’s Most Active Volcano Kilauea which is an amazing back drop to shoot the Milky Way because of the glowing Lava Lake at the summit.

On August 20th 2022 we decided to photography the Milky Way at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.  I chose this particular evening because the moon wouldn’t rise till around 12:30am giving us plenty of time to see the night sky and the Lava Lake in all its glory without the light of the Moon washing out the sky.

Image 1, taken just after sunset you can begin to see the Milky Way on the far left and the glow of the Lava Lake getting brighter.  Eventually it got pitch black and they Milky Way moved into position right over the Lava Lake as seen in Image 2.  In image 3 you can see some clouds drifting by glowing from the Lava Lake below! It was an amazing 5 hours watching the scene unfold!

If you would like to see the Time Lapse I made and posted earlier in the week go here Milky Way Time Lapse

I hope you enjoy!
